Getting Started
Written Realms is a text-based multiplayer world. You type short commands, the game describes what happens, and everyone else in the room sees it happen too. This page covers just enough to get moving, talking, and picking things up — see the pages in this section for more detail on each piece.
Your first few minutes
Once you're in the game, look is the command you'll use constantly — it shows you the room you're in, its exits, and anything (or anyone) worth noticing there:
text
lookFrom there:
- Move with a direction, like
northorn— see Movement. - Talk to people and NPCs — see Communication.
- Pick things up and manage your inventory — see Items & Interaction.
A few commands worth knowing early
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
look | Look at your current room, or look <target> for something specific in it. |
inventory (or inv, i) | Show what you're carrying. |
who | List everyone currently logged in. Players with a ~ in front of their name are Builders. |
help | List available commands, or help <command> for details on one. |
roll | Roll a die — roll (1d6), roll 10 (1d10), or roll 2d6. |
help <command> always reflects the exact commands available in the game right now — it's the fastest way to check a format or an example if something here feels out of date.
Where to go from here
This section covers the basics — moving, talking, and handling items. Written Realms also has deeper systems (combat, crafting, currencies, duels, quests) that aren't covered here yet; each will get its own guide as this documentation grows.
